I’m Going To Be A StoryTeller In Uganda With Sole Hope!!
It was a typical quiet Saturday morning before the kids woke up back in August. I was sipping coffee with my hubby and reading through a few emails. One subject line caught my eye “Uganda…… 2015?
I quickly clicked on Dru Collie’s email and my heart started to pound. “I am trying to put together a blogger/media trip to Uganda March 2015 (rough dates 13-23th) Is this in the realm of possibility for you? We would LOVE to see you on this side!!”
I broke the silence. “Rog, is this email saying what I think it’s saying?”
I handed him my computer and he read Dru’s email. His big smile told me everything.
We both started talking at the same time. I was feeling an explosion of emotions with this incredible invitation to travel to Uganda and serve with Sole Hope-this was on my mission trip bucket list! I felt humbled, ecstatic, encouraged, blessed and honored to say YES and be a part of the StoryTellers 2015 Trip telling stories of the people of Uganda and bring awareness to the jigger crisis.
I’m going to Uganda with Sole Hope March 13-23!!
I have missed the mission field more than I could ever imagine. I have longed to go back and serve in the
places God has sent us over the years. This new season of my life-homeschooling, hubby’s busy work schedule, caring for my parents, substitute teaching, have made it nearly impossible for me to go. And, the go is my favorite part of serving in missions.
God has been gentle with me through this season, reminding me I can still be a mom on a mission without going. It’s not always easy, but sometimes the best growth happens when we wait and step aside letting Him take over with the scheduling. I’m so thankful for this out-of-the-box opportunity to go!
Please pray for me as I prepare to go (stay healthy) and tell stories in Uganda with Sole Hope! Specifically, that God would place before me a few individuals that I will bond with immediately and be able to share their story with you. There is something powerful in a story.
“It may take place in a foreign land or it may take place in your backyard, but I believe that we were each created to change the world for someone. To serve someone. To love someone the way Christ first loved us, to spread His light. This is the dream, and it is possible.” -Katie Davis, Kisses From Katie
So now, I want to officially introduce you to the ministry Sole Hope.

A few years ago Drü and Asher were like many young couples pursuing the American dream. Drü was managing a chain of coffee stores and Asher was building her photography business and taking care of their young children and foster children. Committed, lifelong Christians- Asher’s father was a Navy chaplain and Drü’s parents were involved in overseas mission programs-the Collies have a heart or children in need. They have served as foster parents and were considering adopting an African child when Asher came across a YouTube Video on jiggers and their devastating impact on children.
Sole Hope was born out of one mom’s passion to love big.
Their core purpose is to effectively put in place preventive methods to combat diseases that enter through the feet and to create a positive physical and spiritual difference in the lives of individuals in impoverished communities.
Relief: We believe in addressing the very real and present problems associated with the feet through medical intervention as well as taking preventative physical measures.
Education: We believe that education of the youth and their caretakers is essential for long-term solutions.
Sustainability: We believe in supporting communities and teaching the trade of shoe making. We innovate and demonstrate solutions that combine the best of indigenous and contemporary practice to create sustainable skills and employment.
I encourage you to visit their beautiful website and learn more about jiggers. Meet the shoemakers. Host a Sole Hope shoe party. Go and visit Sole Hope in Uganda and stay at their beautiful guest house. Don’t forget to check out their store and all the amazing products you can wear and share with your family and friends.

Kari! So excited to follow you and the team this next week and a half to Sole Hope in Uganda! I will ponder many things in my heart, hand them over to God, and pray His will be done for you all and maybe toss in my own, “Hey Father, don’t forget I’d love to get my feet on some red Ugandan dirt someday!”
His!
